The 5 cm mass they thought was a fibroadenoma was a benign phyllodes tumor - there were NO marginal tissues excised during surgery. Does anybody have experience of a re-occurence of phyllodes tumor?

    Hi Lauren,

I personally haven't had a re-occurence yet, but I have heard from many women that have. Phyllodes even if they are benign can come back again. That is why it is so important to get good margins, between 1-2cm, when the phyllodes is removed. My phyllodes was a borderline and was 17cm I had to have a mastectomy. Here are some links to the less common breast cancer forums that I found helpful. What kind of margins did you have? I hope your surgeon is going to be following you very closely to make sure your phyllodes does not return. I am seeing my breast surgeon every 6 months and getting annual Mammograms along with MRI.
