Hi all, so I am trying not to panic but can't help it. I posted a week ago but some info, I'm 36 and over a week ago I woke up with a very painful nipple area and also with a large lump, like almost the size of a golf ball!!! It hurt for 3 days then the pain started going away but not the lump, I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with a subareolar abscess and put on antibiotics. 5 days later and no change, went back to the doctor and was scheduled for an ultra sound and general surgery to drain the abscess (ultra sound is today!) this lump is not getting any better it's huge and half my areola is red and so hard, there is no point or head which would usually occur with an abscess and it feels as though it is attached to something it is definitely fixed and not movable The rad called yesterday and said that they were also going to be doing a mammogram. Why would they do a mammogram if they suspect an abscess??? I'm freaking out, i know most lumps are benign but I can't help it!

They probably just want to do a baseline mammogram. Don't worry yet! Abscesses in the breast do no always have a point or a head.

Good luck with the ultrasound today. Breathe. Hang in there.
