Hello, Im a 26 year old female, who recently discovered 2 breast lumps on my right breast. I went to the OBGYN earlier today and she felt it and told me it was probably a fibroadenoma/cyst due to my age and family history. She still referred me for an ultrasound to be safe, which is tomorrow. My lumps are around 2-3 cm.

My question for anyone that has been through something similar - what kind of questions should i be asking during the ultrasound? I know chances are high that they are probably benign, but i have been reading some scary stories (i should stop googling) about young women who actually have cancer, but their doctors put off further testing and they end up getting misdiagnosed simply due to their age.

I was thinking that if the ultrasound shows that it is indeed a solid mass and not a cyst, i would like to have it biopsied just to be on the safe side. However, is this necessary? i don't want to come across as being too paranoid, but i'm thinking its better safe than sorry.

Any advice will help immensely!

Hey there, if it makes you feel any better, my lump looked suspicious immediately on the ultrasound - solid, jagged borders, etc. It also looked immediately suspicious on the mammogram, and I have extremely dense breasts.

All I'm saying is that if your imaging looks ok, it probably really is ok in your case. It's true that imaging can miss things, but if you have a palpable 2-3 cm lump, I don't think they'll miss it. :-)

That being said, if you do notice any breast changes down the road, make sure you report it to your doctor! It's good you're being aware of your breast health. I was diagnosed at only 32, with no family history.

As far as questions to ask - I think the ultrasound techs are not allowed to comment on how your lumps look, so be sure to direct your questions to a doctor. The ultrasound itself is totally painless and an easy procedure.

Best wishes and I hope you get benign results!
