Bloated stomach and breathless

I’m six years out from DIEP surgery. My stomach is still bloated and I have had breathing problems ever since the surgery. My stomach expands when I walk. I try to hold my pocketbook in front of my stomach so people don’t stare. PC says it is because of visceral fat. Prior to surgery I was told I would have a nice flat tummy.

I have a friend who had DIEP and has breathing problems. She has been checked for heart, lungs, etc., and they cannot really figure out why.

hi, thank you. I think with my surgery everything got pushed into a smaller space and with visceral fat (my plastic surgeon says I have) it pushes my stomach out and up. It’s like walking around with a barrel. Then on top of that, my stomach expands when I walk. It all puts pressure on my diaphragm. I think I should have gotten an implant. Thanks for responding.

it may be visceral fat but it can also be lymph fluid not draining properly especially if you're smaller in the morning and grow as the day goes on. The tighter your tummy gets as it swells the harder it can be to breathe.Did your PS do plication during stage 2? Upper abdomen lipo? Both of those can help too.
