Lump there, then gone but pain remains?
Hi everyone, thank you first off engaging in this forum. After reading it for the last few months, I've decided to share my own experience.
In February 2018, I started to feel a pain in my upper inside breast, almost could be considered chest wall, that over 8 weeks time turned into a grape sized lump. I went to my OB's office and she indeed felt the same lump I did, so scheduled a mammogram and US for two days later. In those 48 hours the lump deflated and left a divot that I could push in with my thumb. Even though it was gone, I went through imaging and they could not find any reminants of a cyst. Fast forward to April and the area the lump was at was still tender. Was given muscle relaxers that didn't help. Then in July I saw a breast specialist since the pain spread to my armpit. She refused a MRI said i was too young (35). Did another US and chest X-rays and came back clean. Told to take ibuprofen for a few weeks. Nothing has changed and finally found a doctor to order an MRi. The exact same spot still hurts and now my armpit is bothering me more.
Has anyone had pain from a cyst stick around for months after it goes away? This is really making me nervous.

Do you or any or your docs still feel a lump in the breast? Under your arm? Did the US tech scan under your arm?

Hi, thank you for responding. No lump has been felt since the “cyst” disappeared. July US was done on full breast and armpit areawith no lumps or swelling detected. Pain is all one sided and constant.

Does anyone have any idea? The lump that formed then disappeared was about 1 o’clock on my right breast. Is it possible it was a swollen lymph node that went away? Wondering why my pain has increased and spread to my armpit? I’m having some upper back sore muscle feelings on that same side. My PCP ordered an MRI but we are waiting for insurance to approve.

Possible that it was a nerve bundle or muscle that was irritated or twisted. If nothing else is seen, but pain persists, you might have to see a neurologist to determine the source of the pain. My mother in law, had a non cancerous fibrous mass, that twisted her vein around her right clavicle bone. She had to have surgery and prior to surgery could not lift her arm above her shoulder. Just like the Star Trek intro, seek out new civilizations, you need to seek out a new type of doctor to boldly go where no other doctor has gone before. Good luck.

Thank you for responding. I have a neurologist appointment on the 28th of this month and I will see what they recommend. I ended up in the ER last night since the pain was radiating so strongly through my breast, armpit and back. I was checked for a blood clot and everything came back normal including a CT scan. I realize it's not the end-all-be-all test for BC but to helped me feel a little better. Still hoping my insurance will approve a MRI. They sent me home with a diagnosis of costcochondritis which I've had before and there's is no way that last for 7 months, so I'm still skeptical. There was definitely a lump that started this all off.

Hi rb, just wanted to say that I am in a similar boat as you. I've had intermittent pain (that started out of the blue on one day in June) that radiates through the left side of my left breast and into my armpit. Also pain along my rib, which is swollen enough that I can see it looks bigger in the mirror. Skin changes too, and to me the shape of my breast is flatter. Had a clean ultrasound (small cyst) and skin biopsy that came back as eczema. My GP also says it's costochondritis, which I had a bout of about six months ago, before the breast changes. I don't really see how costochondritis would cause pulsing breast pain and skin changes, so I'm going to go to a breast specialist next but I don't know if they'll redo the imaging. I'm also young, 32. These past few months have been the worst. And I'm sick of everyone telling me to take Advil or smoke weed. Just wanted to offer my empathy and hope that we both find some resolution.

Forest, I’m sorry to hear you are going through all this trouble too. I went to the ER because my sister is in medicine and said they would probably do a scan and that was what I wanted. I don’t think the costcochondritis diagnosis for either one of us sounds correct. I went to a breast specialist and it didn’t end well for me. She was a referral from my OB, saw me for less than 10 minutes. Felt my breast and flatly told me “You don’t have cancer.” She said she wouldn’t give me a MRI. Not what I was expecting from a breast cancer survivor. I ended up going to an old primary care physician who thankfully listened while I ugly cried out of frustration and she offered to do more testing. Both my original primary and specialist told me to take 3 ibuprofen, 3 times daily and see if it feels better in a few weeks. I’m also tired of hearing that and being schooled on caffeine and horomones. Let me know how the specialist goes, I hope you get some answers soon!
