Hello everybody, Update on my first day of chemo
I just wanted to keep you updated on my first day of chemotherapy. Well at first I was scared. I sign in updated all of my insurance information, they weigh me, taken my blood pressure and temperature. I talked to two of my doctors and they explain to me about the two chemo medicines I will be given Cytoxan and Taxotere,
My doctors assured me that I was going to be ok and my medical teams will make sure I be comfortable and will give me something before my chemo start to make sure I do not get sick. I also express concerns about my heart and the side affects that these chemo drugs will have and again the doctors assured me that there will not be any.
The nurses came got me and took me to the chemotherapy room where I meet others and began to talk with them I began to relax a little. My nurse was real nice, she bought me two pills to take before my chemo started, bought me some food and gave me a gift bag containing a hat, blanket. socks, lotion. magazines, mints, gum, instant coffee, coco mix and a lot of helpful books about chemo and when to go to the ER if I get a temperature and a lot of other helpful material. I watched television, kicked back in the recliner and when my chemo started I was so relax.
When I finish my first day of chemo I was surprised that I did not get sick and now so far so good. I was given the prescriptions Dexamethasone, Ondansetron and Promethazine and was told to get some over the counter Claritin D not to sure what for.
I started my first chemotherapy August 14 2018 and thank God I have not experience any sickness or side effects. I sleep good, get up and do my house cleaning, run my errands and go for walks every morning but I do take Zofran every 12 hours just to make sure I want get nauseated.
I had so a good medical staff they was so good to me and I also have wonderful people like you who have gave me so much encouragements and inspirations and you went that extra mile to insure me that everything was going to be alright and I want you to know that I appreciate you all very much and special thanks to MuddlingThrough.

You are welcome. Before I started my chemotherapy I was so scared especially because of my heart condition and I have heard about how horrible chemotherapy side effects are but my medical team went out to make sure I got the best of care to combat the nausea and any other sickness that may occur before and after chemo was done. Best wishes to you

I'm glad to hear things went well. :-)

WC3- Thank you. I have been feeling bad for the past five days but know I feel so much better I guess I crashed after taking that steroid Dexamethasone. I went shopping today and went for my early morning walk. Now my hair is failing out in patches I am wearing a wig but other wise I feel good and how are you doing? I will keep you posted and thank you so much.

elisa, one down! The Claritin is probably for any bone pain you might experience if you get Neulasta after chemo. The Neulasta is to keep your white blood count up. It can cause back and neck pain. I hope you continue to do well. If you want another wig, your Dr can give you a RX and your insurance may pay for it. Or, the American Cancer Society can provide a free one, assuming you are in the States. There are also websites that will send you a headcover for free. Make sure you report any SE's you may experience, to your medical team asap. Stay hydrated! Good luck! It will be in your rear view mirror before you know it.

keepthefaith- How are you doing today? It's good to hear from you. I am glad you explained things for me. I away thought that Claritin was for allergies or colds and what the Neulasta were because all this were all new to me and thank you so much.
Today I will call the American Cancer Society and get more information about the wig because I can use one, I am completely bald now even though I have about three wigs I can always use more. I am always looking on the internet at different wig stores for something different on styles and I did not know that some of them will send you a free headcover to got to check this out.
My doctors always tell me if you have a high fever go the ER but so far so good. I know one day I will be looking at all of this through the rear view mirror but sometimes my patience get short because I have still a long ways to go but I know I have to stay positive. I taken my second round of chem yesterday 09/04/2018 a little exhausted because computer went down an 8.30 am appointment and did not get out of there until 6.30 pm. I will keep you posted and thank you so much.
