Hi all

I'm new to the forum and wanted to get some general advice. I had 4 fibroadenomas in my left breast all of which are quite painful. I opted to have them removed and agreed this with the surgeon. On the day of my surgery the surgeon said he would only remove 2 as 1 of them didn't warrant removal and the other was very deep set in the breast (it just so happens that this is the one that is causing me the most pain). When I requested it to be removed he said no and said I would be left with scarring. I told the surgeon I was not concerned about the scarring I wanted relief from the pain that I experience on a daily basis, he said oh in that case take pain killers. I was mortified that he encouraged me to take pain killers long term when surgery would solve it. When I pushed him further he said he could do it via a wire localisation procedure, which would minimise the scarring. I have since tried to schedule the surgery only to be told that the surgeon has changed his mind again and won't carry out the surgery.

Is there any advice anyone can give me to help? I am keen to get this surgery and move on with my life.

Thank you

Molly

honestly, I’d look for a different surgeon and get a 2nd opinion. If his only reason for not performing the surgery is because he worries about scarring you (even though you clearly don’t mind) then that to me is not acceptable. If there is more to it then that then he should be forth coming with other reasons why he won’t remove it. Finding adifferent surgeon would be my next move.

Thank you. I've arranged an appointment with my GP next week to discuss a referral for removal. I hope he is better!
