Has anyone else gone through this: I have had a small hard lump in my left breast for nearly two years and I never thought anything of it. Then one night while taking my bra off I noticed it was extremely painful and had gotten larger and over the next two weeks it kept getting bigger and my breast kept getting redder. My PCP wouldn't even touch referred me to a general surgeon ASAP but that was going to be another two week wait. So being in pain and concerned I went to the ER they drained it. Then the surgeon insisted I still come see him and was sent for a mammogram and ultra sound the radiologist would not do the mammogram she said it would be to painful. The ultrasound sound came back with a star shaped mass possibly liquid my surgeon scheduled my surgery all was good. Then all of a sudden no I'm being told it needs done by a vascular surgeon who specializes in breast biopsy reconstruction etc. Its not until next month. I'm trying not to freak out but my surgeon said I was at high risk.

Hi Amber and I'm so sorry you are going through this. May I ask a few questions so we can be of most help? Have you seen the ultrasound report? And has anyone suggested an MRI or a biopsy? I think you need more information before scheduling surgery -- is it perhaps an excisional biopsy they are recommending?

The radiologist explained his findings then I followed up with the general surgeon who said it needed removed and biopsied. He scheduled it for yesterday actually but Monday his office called and said I was going to have yo get it done with another surgeon who specialized in breast biopsies and reconstruction.

Thanks Amber. That sounds right; it's better to have an experienced breast surgeon do that procedure. It doesn't mean you're at higher risk of cancer and I will keep fingers crossed for you that you receive benign findings.
