edited August 2018 in Waiting for Test Results

I am 65 and had my first mammogram about a week and a half ago and was called back because there is a 6mm spot on the right breast. It does not show up in the ultrasound. It was rated a birad3 which is probably benign they say and want me to come back in six months for another mammogram. What if I don't want to wait that long? My doctor thinks I should trust the radiologist but he doesn't have the spot I do. He said it does not look scary and it looks smooth which I guess is good but why didn't it show up on ultrasound?

mammogram, ultrasound and MRI all use different technologies to image the inside of the body & they 'see' slightly different things.

fwiw, "BI-RADS score of 3 means that your mammogram is probably normal but that there's an approximately 2 percent chance of cancer. You'll be asked to follow-up with a repeat mammogram in six months. And if you have a family or personal history of breast cancer, the radiologist may opt to do more tests now rather than wait."

thank you for your reply. It Is the 2% that are cancerous that worries me. And there is no breast cancer in my family. It’s the waiting that will be hard.

I totally hear you. This whole thing is hard - the choices, the waiting, the false positives, the real positives etc. - it all sucks.
