My mother received her diagnoses last Thursday. The subtype was categorized as ER- and PR+. Can that be? Do we have folks on this board who have this subtype? What has the route of treatment been?

    Hello lovemom65

Firstly, sorry to hear about your mother's diagnosis but you've come to the right place. Yes, ER-and PR+ exists. I'm one of those people. I'm also HER2+. Not a doc. Just follow the research links on this website and others.

As you'll learn, there are at least 10 different types of BC, according to Cambridge University, and many factors the oncologist takes into account such as grade, growth, size etc, all of which affects a treatment plan.

That said, I learned about the possible protective effect of progesterone and the way it can put the brakes on cell growth by following a link to the Cancer Research UK website from Breastcancer.org. That led me to declining Tamoxifen as it reduces both ER and PR. I wanted to keep my PR. If I had been Er+ I would have taken it, however!

That - or my kitchen sink treatment - seems to have worked six years on.

Worth having a discussion with your mum's oncologist about the role of progesterone?

    Good luck!

    Alice
