Question about the process???....

So I've lost my patients. I got test results back. In so many words, basically it is unsure. Something is there, very obvious, but unclear as to what is what because they're saying the tissue taken at the biopsy wasn't enough tissue.

So now I have to see a breast specialist. Why? I do not know!

What is this whole process?. I always thought that if you catch it early you have a better chance. How do you do that if you have to wait for so many months for results and more text and more long waiting?. I don't understand. Can someone explain to me this whole process?

Is there anyway you can get to see a breast specialist sooner? Did they make the appt for you? I'd call and ask to be put on the list for cancellations. Its tough waiting. If I remember correctly you initially stated that your results posted said successful biopsy. Obviously it was not enough and for some reason they don't want to do another biopsy. There was no pathology at all from that sample? .

When did you have your mammograms / ultrasounds & when did you have your biopsy done? I'm just trying to get a sense of how much time has passed?

Sometimes biopsies fail. Abnormal areas can be heterogenous - benign cells mixed with abnormal cells. Pathologists looking at core samples are literally looking at individual cells and it can be hard to read those results and then they need a bigger sample to make a determination of what they're seeing.

They may be referring you to a breast specialist for an excision biopsy. Or perhaps the specialist might decide to just do a lumpectomy to pull the whole thing out & look at it properly. Do you have an appointment date for it?

Yes it was a successful biopsy 'procedure'. I'll have to look at my test again to see what it says. That was back in July. I was upset because I had to wait an additional week it was the 4TH of July, for My biopsy results.

My consultation with the surgeon is tomorrow. AUGUST 7. So it's been a couple weeks/about a month.

I'm in a similar boat, biopsy, confirmation it was cancer on July 20th,surgeon appt tommorow. And apparently I'm told by a previous patient that it's  a 4-6 week wait for surgery and that was before cutbacks and a personell shortages we have now so it may actually be closer to 8.

I was told before cancer confirmation even if it was not cancer it was concerning enough that it had to go.

Could this be why they want you to see the surgeon?

ok beach2beach, I had a benign biopsy. Yaaay.

Today, the surgeon said I need to have another ultra sound of my Axillary Lymph node. And have another biopsy. Bummer.

Moth, she did say it will be a different type of biopsy. I don't remember it. But I had a Core biopsy before. She also mentioned the ultra sound will show if she she'll have to pull it out. I asked get what does that mean. She that the lymph node may have to be taken out.

So ladies, my appointment is for next week Thursday.

Thank you for helping me undetstand. I'm still a little confused. I always thought you shouldn't want the lymph nodes out because of their function to prevent and fight off viruses and infections and what not. I have to take my 16 year old to a surgeon for a lymph node in his neck they want to biopsy that's been there for about 9/10 months. He goes Friday. We'll see what happens.

Yes your lymph system is important. Do realize that the way fluids flow through your system,cancer cells that “escape” from the breast typically do so by way of the lymph system. So, it’s better to sacrifice a few lymph nodes in order to determine if your cancer is contained.
