I think I have thrombocytopenia

I'm halfway through chemotherspy and I've got a few bruises of unknown origin, some petechiae and my blood took unusually long to clot after I pricked myself earlier. Of course it's the weekend so my only option is the ER. Do I go or do I wait until Monday and call my doctor?

Morning WC3, apparently petechiae comes with chemo. There is also a Petechiae topic at BCO.

I’m not sure what you should do, I guess it depends on how bad it is and if it’s getting worse. You can do a search on Petechiae and chemo. Monday is a long time to wait.

Thanks for the link. It's not particularly bad at the moment so I have decided to wait. I have a blood test Wednesday but I will see if I can have it Monday.

Does your insurance provide a 24 hour nurse help line? They might be able to help you decide how urgent your symptoms are.

Do you know whether your platelets were low at your last blood test?

I agree. Since it's a new, undiagnosed symptom I'd suggest you call your oncologist today.

My blood work came back. I do have thrombocytopenia. My infusion has been delayed but on the upside, I have a week of good eating ahead of me.
