Benign.....but.......
So I thought getting a benign diagnosis would leave me with tears of joy instead I'm just as worried as before. Of course my whole family thinks I'm being ridiculous for being upset. I am 37 and went in to get check because of severe breast pain and bright red bloody discharge. After having a mammogram and ultrasound they found a suspicious mass. So they ordered a biopsy for it. The biopsy came back that it was a fibroadenoma. I asked them if they were sure because with everything I read I figured it was a papilloma. She said they were positive. I then asked if a fibroadenoma would also cause the pain and bloody discharge. She said no. She said that it was highly unlucky that a fibroadenoma would cause either of those things. I asked what was next then and she said that's all they can do there and they were sorry that they didn't have more answers for me, but to get in touch with my gynecologist. Well my gynecologist sent me there because they didn't have any answers for me, and had ran all the tests they could. So now I don't know what to do. I happy that the mass was benign but it CAN'T be normal to have pain and bloody discharge from one breast.

Have you thought about gettibg a second opinion?

It could be a hidden intraductal papiloma maybe see if your doctor could do a ductogram to determine the underlying cause of breast discharge as I have a milky discharge but then I heard that nipple discharge is also common with fat necrosis which is my benign condition. so fat necrosis could possibly also cause a bloody discharge both of non cancer stuff but scary when you see different stuff coming out of your breasts no matter what it is . Congrats on your benign stuff .

I would get a second opinion. I was also just diagnosed with a fibroadenoma. Like you, I have bloody discharge from my nipple. My surgeon believes that I have something else going on in my breast so she ordered another ultrasound to check for any dilated ducts and mentioned intraductal papilloma and said if that's the case then I'll be having surgery.

I have a long and extensive history of fibroadenomas (have had > 12 removed and still have several more that we’re leaving alone because they are small and stable). While some of the larger ones have caused discomfort, they have NEVER caused any sort of discharge. I would get a second opinion

Definitely a second opinion. I did not have the same condition as you, but had I not gotten a second opinion, the LCIS in my left breast would not have been identified, as three radiologists in the first practice I went through were so focused on my right side that they missed what was going on in my left. Completely missed. Ifyou still have questions, and the first set of physicians refuse to or cannot answer them, then find yourself ones that can and want to.
