Fractured chemoport tubing

I know it sounds crazy but I'm literally having one now. Mine was inserted in Feb and I've completed my treatment in May.

Yesterday morning when I went for flushing of the port the nurses found that it was leaking. Defective. And chest x ray today confirmed that the port has been detached from its tube and the fractured part is now sitting in my heart!!!

Look like I have to go for another surgery to fish it out! Oh God.....

Anyone had or heard of similar situation?

    omg Hariry, that sounds horrible!

I saw your other post that a cardiovascular surgeon will need to figure out how to get it out I hope they can do it minimally invasive - I'm thinking something like a reverse cath lab/angioplasty procedure.

And you know what, I'd be tempted to look at the old surgical report when you had it inserted to see if they list the brand & type of port device, and also maybe ask for the parts of anything they fish out to be saved and/or photographed and I'd consult at least the hospital ombudsperson if not a lawyer - because this sounds like a faulty device (or a mistake in insertion which caused a crack?)

hugs. Sorry you have to deal with this.

    Hariry,

It's rare, but it can happen. I'm so sorry!  When do you think they'll take it out?  Are you being monitored?  Gentle hugs and prayers.

Thanks girls, @frog thanks especially for the journal. Moth, the surgeon expressed his "sorry" but I think even when the broken parts are captured we might still not know what went wrong. Or whose fault is that. I'm not asking him to hand on this round.

I know I am in good hands. No worries. Monday I'm going in for the retrieval.Hugs to you too, Gina
