Hi, I completed active treatment February 14 for stage 2b IDC. Had follow up mammogram and ultrasound last month which were all clear. Met with breast surgeon for normal visit, and she wants a routine breast MRI. Is this normal? She said she likes follow up images post treatment. The anxiety I'm feeling just thinking about it is making me crazy. I'm actually terrified that there might be something she isn't telling me. I felt such relief after the clear mammo, now this is getting me in knots again. Anyone else get MRI after

Mama, I did not get an MRI after my active treatment but I really wish I did. I am not really comfortable with the “wait for symptoms” method that most doctors, mine included, use. It seems silly to me to have tools available that we are not using. I’d rather deal with a smaller recurrence rather than a much larger one if given a choice. That said, you should feel comfortable enough with your doctor to not suspect her hiding something from you. No easy answers.

I could be wrong, but I read somewhere that with a lumpectomy you do continue to have MRI's. It was one of the "down factors" when I was deciding which surgery to have. However, I finally decided on the less invasive lumpectomy even though I'll have to have the terrible MRI's. At least we will know we are completely cancer free in our breasts

I don’t find MRI’s terrible at all - at least they don’t involve radiation. My first one felt very awkward but then I was freaked out about being newly diagnosed. I guess if I was claustrophobic about the machine it would bother me.
