Breast changes shape when I lift my arm

Hi all.

I've spent days worrying about this, switching from 'all out panic' to deciding 'it is normal' several times each day! So I figured it was time to ask for some advice.

I'm 34 years old, mum of two, no family history of BC.

When doing my BSE this month, I noticed that when I lift my arm over my head, my left breast forms a "not quite an indent" at the 4 o' clock position. There is no dent or dimple in the skin, but the outline of my boob loses its roundness and looks flat for about an inch. It's really hard to explain. When I press the area it feels empty inside, like there is no breast tissue under it, just fat. The rest of my breasts are very dense/fibrocystic.

I'm not sure if this is classed as a dimple or not. I'm also not sure if it is normal and that I've just never noticed it before! My other breast doesn't do this, but I do have uneven breasts.

I've booked an appointment with my GP next week but it's such a long time to deal with this uncertainty.

I just wondered if anyone has heard of anything similar or can offer any advice? I'm so confused

Here is a link to a self breast examination PDF. Some of the maneuvers shown are meant to exaggerate skin retraction if present.

Regardless of the result of your self exam keep the appointment with your doctor.

Hi Rosey84! I actually did have this about 9 months ago and I all out panicked! Everything I read was so scary and had me planning my funeral. After a mammogram, ultrasound, and several exams from my family doc to a breast surgeon mine ended up being chocked up to just lazy ligaments in my breast. So, while yes, it could be something like cancer, there’s also other explanations for what you’re experiencing. I would definitely go get an ultrasound/mammogram just to err on the side of caution. I wish you the best and will be praying for you! 🙂

    thanks.

I went to my GP who examined the area and said she isn’t worried at all. She said it’s just fatty tissue. She didn’t refer me for any further test
