3D Mammogram, possibly needle

I need to have a 3D mammogram with the possibility of biopsy and will be doing it this week. A few months ago, I had a PET/CT scan that showed 2.6 uptake in a 6mm spot in my right breast. This started a whole slew of tests: 2d mammogram, ultrasound, and breast mri - all negative. The breast mri radiologist gave his 2nd opinion on the original 2d mammogram and pointed out an irregularity, so now a fourth test for me because of incomplete diagnosis so far! It's all so frustrating and time consuming, but I know it has to be done. Anyone else have this type of lingering experience? Also, if biopsy is needed, what should I expect? Is recovery painful? Thanks for reading.

Hi there Roxanne. I have not personally had a PET/CT scan. I went the usual route of mammogram (mine was 3D), then ultrasound then MRI. But it does seem unusual that after an MRI they would order another test. I think better safe than sorry tho, so fingers crossed you get good results. The upside will be that you have great baseline tests in the file to guide decisions in the future.

If it does move to a needle biopsy, it's not very painful. It does require a painkiller injection (which hurts, I won't lie) then you are numb. I think I used Tylenol and ice for 24 hours.
