Triple negative breast cancer recurrence

Options

On August 18, 2018 it will be 11 years since I was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer. I was 26 at the time of diagnoses and have had no recurrences. Although I have had no recurrences, I still live in fear of relapsing, especially whenever I get pain somewhere in my body, or when it is time for me to have my yearly mammogram. I feel like I'll never have peace. My question is, is it possible to have a recurrence of TNBC even after having had been in remission for over 10 years?

I believe it is possible, but I have read that unlike ER+ disease, triple negative is less likely to recur after 5 years. Hopefully others who have gone past 10 years will chime in. Congratulations on your 10 years and wishing you many more decades!

Anything is possible, but it is very rare; typically TNBC recurs in the first 5 years.

I live in Austria and was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer two years ago. I saw a tnbc expert at the University of Heidelberg not long ago and he said that they consider a tnbc patient cured if they do not have a recurrence by year 8.

I was surprised to hear him say that, but I suppose that at your stage, the chances are indeed so rare that they consider you cured.

    Hope this helps.
