Hi, I posted earlier and maybe needlessly stressing out about something we have no control over. My mom was diagnosed a little over a week ago with IDC.

We have been waiting on results for whether or not she is responsive to hormones or has the HeR2 marker. All week, every day they told her "tomorrow" they would probably have the results. Now it's the weekend and still nothing. Getting frustrated. Does anyone know if the grade (1) or size (small 9mm) or location (LOQ close to the nipple) have any correlation with being hormone receptive or the HeR2 marker?

I know there's no guarantee and every case is different but can anyone tell me in their experiences and what they've heard if what we know so far points to any specific staging or have any information on lymph node involvement or just anything in general? (She did tell me she isnt too worried but can tell one of her lymph nodes seems swollen or tender which it hadn't been before her diagnosis. This to me seemed uncharacteristic of what I've been told about stage 1.)

Thank you all so much for your time and experience. This forum and the people here are absolutely amazing and inspiring.

-Tevyn.

Perhaps her node feels swollen because of the biopsy? They are not always the most gentle on the body. I don't think the size or location has any bearing on the hormonal makers. Some people have 3cm tumors that are triple negative and someone else may have 5mm thats triple positive and those that fall everywhere in between with size and er/pr pos or neg and her2 pos and neg. Just don't know until it comes in. I hope you get the answers by Monday. Very frustrating waiting for that call.

if you haven't gone to MD Anderson site and you want to research different BC it's great but don't diagnose based on your reading. I can't tell not to stress because it's stressful.Hugs!!!

Well, you realize at this point everything is just a guess but I'll tell you what my dr told me ( and my tumor was grade 2 and 1.5 cm) - "This is just a bump in the road, cancer with a little c. You will be fine". And so far she was exactly right. I have the mom kind of cancer - small, slow growing, basically lazy. Sounds like the description of your mom's.

From what you've posted (without knowing about lymph nodes) she sounds like grade 1, stage 1 and the majority of those are ER/PR positive, her2 negative.

Everything before surgery is just a guess. If her pathology after surgery ends up being ER/PR positive and Her2 negative be sure to ask for an Oncotype test. That will tell if chemo would be of any benefit.

Oh, any by the way, my lymph node was very tender after the ultrasound and it ended up being negative.

Best wishes to your family. This waiting period is really the hardest part

Thank you so much everyone. I guess I just needed a reminder to not panic. Your words are very reassuring and I appreciate you all sharing your experience. Very frustrating but you're all so helpful in calming these nerves.
