Lots of Pain
Its been 4 months since I had 4 weeks of radiation to my breast. I had NO pain and was doing wonderful . So good. Now I'm really scared. Now all of a sudden I have horrible pain in the top part of my breast above the nipple. Its not even where I had the surgery. It really hurts to lift my arm up now.
Is this normal. I had a huge jolt of paint this Morning. I'm not sure what is happening. Its just so painful. It really hurts when I move my arm and my nipple is really sore too. its been a little painful the last two weeks and when I got a good jolt today it through me for a loop. Not sure whether to talk to my doctor or just wait til my follow up.
My followup tests are in the middle of August.
Anyone been through this

I had a very tender spot right after radiation that is still there above where my breast was removed. That area was also radiated. My doctors including my radiologist said it is scar tissue. It is slowly becoming less tender, but once in a while when I roll on that side, I feel a sharp pain.

You may want to mention this to your doctor now. They may suggest an appointment with a PT. Sometimes they can work out all kinds of kinks that happen after surgery and radiation. Mine was a miracle worker. I wish you luck!

You may have an infection or swelling or some other stupid thing that any one of your docs can fix right up.  Remember the paperwork each of them gave you?  The paperwork that says you should call them with any issues, increased pain, for instance?

Your surgeon is probably best equipped to assess your problem.  He's the specialist in breast issues and, of course, has his handiwork to check up on/admire.

Probably the quickest one to see is the RO, as they expect post-rads issues, and are set up for patients to more or less walk right in.  At my hospital, I just walked up to the desk.  A nurse came to see me, assessed my problem, decided a doc needed to see me, and got me right in.

    Thanks everyone.

They did call me today , to get in tomorrow or early next week . I got a message on my phone as I called with my symptoms. I definitely have to be seen . I'm hoping something simple like an infection. I can live with that. Hopefully it will be ok.

    Thanks

    Update at my Doctor Apt.

He thinks I have a lot of fluid in my breast. We are going to see if I can get rid of it by massaging the area for two weeks and if It don't go away I have to go back. This is what he is thinking anyway. I will try it for two weeks nothing to loose . I have a mammagram in the middle of August anyway for my first followup.

Radiation caused me lots of pain and loss of motion even 6 months afterwards. I recently have had my DIEP reconstruction and my PS said there were lots of fibroid tissue, scar tissue, and encapsulated seromas that likely were causing my pain. My reconstruction so far has alleviated a lot of the pain I was experiencing. My range of motion is still an issue because I can't yet do PT after my recent surgery, I am hoping that will get better as well. I found prior to my reconstruction surgery, if I continuously did my exercises daily and went to PT twice a week for myofascial release, my ROM was good and the pain lessened, but if I failed even 2-3 days, it would tighten back up again.

Princess, did he give you specific massage techniques designed to move the fluid out of your breast?  If not, please arrange to see a lymphedema (specialized physical therapy) therapist who can supercharge that de-fluid-ing.

I had my first followup mammogram and they found a lump. So more tests are needed. its near the scars tissue too. Not in the original area of the cancer. I was hoping for good results for my first mammogram. I hope this turns into nothing.I can't deal with more cancer right now. Its only been four months since radiation. Crazy

I'm new to this thread, but after 4 months after radiation and no breast pain, I started just being uncomfortable. Now I'm back to wearing my sports bras (no more VS) and more pain and swelling. I called my RO right away and after the nurse examined me, she recommended more specialized PT. I hope it helps again-was feeling so good-sigh.

I also started to get pain four months after finishing the treatment. The area does not seem more swollen. Any idea what could be happening?

I went for my mamogram there was a mass but no cancer in it. They are going to keep an eye on the area. I'm not sure why I have pain and swelling 4 months after treatment . Mamogram was ok , so I will live with it for now. Maybe the little mass is pressing on a nerve , not sure. The swelling is the worse , its rubs against my arm and I hate it. Just going to hang in there until the next Mamogram.
