Up and Down
Hello everyone,
I'm brand new here and this is my story. I had a screening mammogram at my clinic on 7/13/2018 (who chooses Friday the 13 for a mammogram?) that showed asymmetry in 3 areas of the left breast. I was referred to my local hospital's imaging center for additional mammogram views on 7/19 which showed "architectural distortion." This was followed by an ultrasound and finally a biopsy. The biopsy showed ADH with recommendation of surgical excision of that area. I made an appointment with a specialized breast center surgeon and saw her on July 25. Based on the mammogram and ultrasound, she was concerned that this was DCIS or invasive carcinoma and not just ADH. She scheduled me for a MRI on 8/6 and wire localization and excision on 8/10, and also had her pathologists over-read my slides. With her concern of DCIS or invasive, my husband and I discussed the situation and agreed if that is the case, I would prefer a prophylactic bilateral mastectomy. Today (7/27), I received a call from the nurse and she said their pathologist read my slides as epithelial proliferation and not ADH. The surgeon now ordered a 3d mammogram with possible repeat biopsy on 8/1 as the previous biopsy was taken at 6 o'clock and they are concerned about the 12 o'clock area. I'm not sure what to think anymore. Anyone else ever been in this up and down limbo? Any advice for me?

I’m so sorry you are going through this! Why would same tissue be interpreted differently by two different med professionals?? Almost makes you want to get a third opinion which is time and money.. or get two groups together in a meeting with you to explain themselves and arrive at a diagnosis and plan that is not so inconsistent! You as a patient should not have to tolerate this crap frankly.
really hope I don’t have this same experience tomorrow as I too am seeking second opinion! I will let you know.
Stereotactic biopsy revealed NO Atypia but believed biopsy inconsistent with architectural image on mamm so referred immediately to breast/general surgeon for excision of lesion with savi-clip placement to increase accuracy of abnormal tissue removal to the clean margins. However, this BS not an Oncologist. Apparently some portion of lesion/excision DID show atypia as was diagnosed with ADH...did not ever get to see report directly. Should’ve requested to but at least will find out more tomorrow
