32 and living with breast cancer

Options

Hi all-

New to the boards. At 8 months post-partum with my first, and likely only, child, I was diagnosed. I’m halfway through chemo now, which has been hell on wheels since the get-go (never a good sign when 3 separate oc say to you, “you’ve had a really rough time”), and anticipate the next 10 years of my life on tamoxifen. I’m concerned about SE and wonder which ones you’ve all experienced? How common is the hair thinning and uterine cancer? I’m already living with 10-20 hot flashes/day because I am receiving the lupron injection to put me into a temporary menopause

Hi, Welcome. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. It’s so incredibly hard and isolating to face this, at any time, but particularly with young children.

I was diagnosed at 33 and my Son was 2 and a half at the time.

The hormonal therapy is not the greatest but it’s manageable. Tamoxifen isn’t that bad for me. I am also in chemical menopause (zoladex). I was on anastrazole for a few months and went back to tamoxifen recently. I just try to tell myself that it’s temporary...after 5 years I look forward to feeling ‘normal’ again. You will find a ‘new normal’ on hormone therapy.
