Just diagnosed today -- invasive mammary carcinoma

Hello everyone,

I've been hanging out in the "not diagnosed -- waiting for test results" forum for the last few weeks, and I was expecting to bid everyone a fond farewell today after getting my biopsy results (which I totally thought would be benign).

But I got the news that I was least expecting... invasive mammary carcinoma with ductal and lobular features. This is all I know so far. The full pathology is still pending. I am scheduled to have an MRI on Monday 7/30, and appointments with the breast surgeon, medical oncologist, and radiation oncologist on Wednesday 8/1. Back in the waiting game...

I am 41 years old -- will be 42 next month. My birads was 4, so I was totally expecting for this to be benign. The doctor actually called me while I was at the gym this morning! I had to call him back later when I got to my office... I was just completely floored. I called my husband and told him. Then I went and told my boss -- who was just so wonderful (she is a doctor, and was just as kind as can be). I cancelled my meetings for the day, and then came home. Planning to just take it easy today.

Sigh... I know this next week and a half is going to be torture. I just want to know everything NOW!

The waiting is some of the worst part....trying to not let anxiety take over our every thought while we wait. But it looks as if you are lined up fairly quickly to get things going. You can use some of this time to plan some meals, finish any ongoing projects and start your notebook etc. I get a CD made of all of my tests and keep in my records....never know when you will need them.

This web site is the best place to look at what Breast Cancer is all about.Good luck on your MRI and hopefully everything will go smoothly

Sorry about the news. We all so know how you feel. It had to be worse for you though because it came as a shock. I, however, was braced for the worst. End result is the same but still when you are positive it will go the other way...

Sounds you have a great boss and supportive husband. Support is key.

Wishing you the best. It will be over before you know it!

    Diane
