Public Charge?

Options

I have been working in the US for 4 years with working visa. I am in the processing of applying for marriage green card now. I heard having cancer can be considered "public charge" and will get green card denied. I am very scared now. I have good job and good medical insurance. I have finished all active treatment already. Am I still considered "public charge"?

From what I understand it basically means someone dependent on the government for assistance and a cancer DX may fall in that category. The fact that you have already gone through treatment may make a difference.

I’m not an attorney so I would consult one so you know what you are dealing with. Typically consultations are free.

    Good luck!

Here is additional Snapshot of information on public charge and a link to the website. From what you e said above and what I briefly read it looks like you’re in a good position. This is 1 time where breast cancer being perceived as easy to cure may be a benefit in this case. The information does state that you cannot be denied over just 1 potential for public charge unless certain circumstances are in play. Good luck with the green card!! 🍀
