I'm 39, diagnosed with focal IDC, two weeks and two days post op from left total mastectomy, left sentinel node biopsy with 3 nodes removed and right prophylactic mastectomy. Had expanders placed as well. Pathology back with 3 tumors of IDC, a 5cm DCIS and some LCIS, 3 of 3 nodes clear and focal lymphovascular invasion, right breast clear. Genetic Study came back BRCA2 heterozygous high cancer risk. Currently waiting on Oncotype Dx before making a decision on chemo. Will do hormone blocking therapy for 5-10 years. Planning on total hysterectomy.

Anyone else with similar diagnosis. Concerned about focal lymphovascular invasion and chemo.

Hi, sorry you find yourself here. Obviously Oncotype will give you another piece of information to make your decision.

Other things to consider were what's the size of the IDC and what grade? Certainly your young age & lymphovascular invasion are also important factors.

Hi lump- sorry to meet you here. Glad to hear no node involvement, that’s good news. With lvi, they may recommend rads instead of chemo if your score comes back low. That was one of the factors for me getting rads in addition to the positive node.

With brca2, I can see why the total hysterectomy. As it is, I’m strongly considering getting my ovaries out, just to eliminate the need for OS shots.

    Best of luck to you!

I'm also 39! I had a bilateral mastectomy and lymph node removal (1 node) on August 15, for widespread DCIS in the left breast. Recovering from that. I just got my post surgical path report on Thursday. I found out I had a small (4mm) invasive tumor and some microinvasive components. We're waiting to see if they can run the Oncotype test on such a small tumor, which will help determine next steps. I am likely looking at Tamoxifen for 5 years and chemo is not off the table yet. I'll also be considering what to do over these next few weeks. It's a lot to sort through! Sending good thoughts your way.
