So I've had on and off pain in my left breast for a while (for years actually) and in recent months I thought it got a bit worse so I got checked out by my doctor. On examination my doctor felt a small lump 2 o'clock from my nipple and I was sent for ultrasound. Now that I have my ultrasound result back things are getting a bit confusing... The result basically said that it showed a 7mm "nodule" with "benign characteristics" but since benign breast lesion in males is very rare I was recommended to be referred to a breast surgeon (possibly for a biopsy). For whatever reasons my doctor did physical examination once again when I was following up and now she tells me she doesn't quite feel it anymore! But I'm being referred to a breast surgeon "just to make sure". I'm just sitting here worried and in a bit of disbelief. Are benign lumps just that rare in male breasts that the possibility of it being malignant can't be overlooked? I do have a family history with my maternal grandmother being diagnosed at the age of 80.
