Referred to Surgeon

I had a clear 3D mammogram in December. My primary care physician ordered a chest CT to screen my lungs, since I'm a smoker. CT Scan showed clear lungs, but mass on right breast. PCP ordered ultrasound of right breast. The result is a 7mm lesion and PCP has referred me to a surgeon. I'm concerned that mammogram didn't pick this up. Concerned that potentially went from clear to 7mm in 6 months. Concerned that I've been losing weight over the past 6 months. Concerned that blood work a few months ago showed elevated white blood cell count.

So sorry our are going through all this! It sounds like your PCP is on top of his/her game by sending you for the CT scan of your lungs. Do you have other mammograms that say you have dense breasts? Mine say that and that there could be areas where a lesion could be hidden in the density. 7mm is very small. Assuming the surgeon is for a biopsy of the spot? Remember that 80% of all biopsies come back negative. It could be nothing. Someone said to me when I was in your same position that all breast cancer is treatable. Keep us posted and try not to worry.

    Hugs.
