I've had better days. Hubby and I met with surgeon to get results from biopsy. Invasive mammary (mixed ductal and Lobular types) carcinoma, moderately differentiated, grade 2 (Nottingham.)

We had a long talk mainly to let me know that we need more information and <drum roll> biopsies. So he did two core needle biopsies on my lymph nodes. Results for estrogen and progesterone as well as HER-2 is pending.

He also scheduled me to meet with an oncologist next week (one I requested) and I have a MRI with dye. Then I meet with my surgeon again on the following Monday for MRI resullts and plan.

Is this a typical plan? Anything I should be asking for.

If your biopsy comes back estrogen positive, ask for an Oncotype to see if you would benefit from chemo. The TAILORx study just came out that concludes that many estrogen positive patients will not need chemo. Your age makes a difference, though. Different guidelines for younger than 50.

Jimiwithani- you're moving right along on the right path, everything in order. The Oncotype DX will come in to play after you get your receptor status. After surgery a slice of the tumor gets sent off to Genomic Health. But I think you'll cross that bridge with your MO when you get there.

The MRI without & with contrast isn't too bad. I laid on my chest, headset on listening to music I requested (Tom Petty) and the machine did its job. They push the dye, take more pictures (more noise), and before you know it you're done. Facility where I had mine done they have a mirror set up so I was actually looking outside. Best wishes to you, it will go smoothly.

You'll get through this, you're stronger than you know. And you've got the backing of all the women on this site. Keep us posted.
