MRI this Thursday
after a few weeks off from cancer testing. I'm back at it again. I'm having mri this Thursday to see if my fibroadenoma needed to be removed or see other things that is going on.
I don't like lying on my stomach and I don't like tight space. Can anybody shares their experience and what I should expect.
I'm not worry that it's cancer but I'm really worry about the testing process itself. I wonder why breast cancer testing have to be so stressful

It’ll be sort of noisy, they should give you ear plugs. They can talk to you and you’ll be able to hear them but they won’t hear you/you’ll get a button to press if for some reason you need something. No metal in your clothing, so if you do leggings you can keep those on. I got a nice blanket to keep warm and they did everything to make sure I was comfortable. I had my diagnosis before my MRI, it was to dbl check we hadn’t missed anything and to verify how much we needed to remove. I actually found it relaxing, it’s not often that I get an hour to just be still

It won't feel like a tight space-I remember bending my legs at the knees with my feet waving around up in the air during the down times.
I declined the headphones-big heavy clumsy clamp on my head? No thanks. That would make it more claustrophobic imo.
The noise is not pretty but if you stuffed foam plugs (a little bit of kleenex?) in each ear it would soften it.
Hardest parts for me were getting on and off that crazy table.
I do have a residual intermittant tremor, from my head being flexed slightly backwards for so long-my hands were dead by the end of the test.

it is noisy...and I did feel a bit closed in myself, especially when it lasts a long time. I've had MRI's that have lasted over an hour because they were doing several areas w/contrast. I think the ear plugs helped and I just tried to rest...and I believe they offered music but I declined. I needed to just zone out...I am pretty nosy and didn't want to miss anything
Hope it goes good for you!!!

I had an MRI to do with my migraine issues (solved by figuring out I had vitamin D issues and prescription of an as needed medicine I haven't needed).
Didn't think I'd be bothered, but I hated it. The tech gave me some glasses that helped A LOT the glasses had mirrors in them that allowed me to see out the end of the machine.
Before that, they were telling me to stop talking. I wasn't, I was praying in my head (but muscles often move when we think of talking) because of my nerves.
If you can, ask about the glasses. I think they're called MRI prism glasses or something. I think you might be a.to find them on Amazon, but the place I went had them on hand.
Good luck on the test itself and the results!

CBnimh, you don't need glasses with breat MRI. You lie face down & go into the tube feet first. You are not really aware you are in it because you aren't looking up

I have pretty bad claustrophobia. I've had many MRIs for my knees and back, and always managed to get through it with meditation. The breast MRI was a different beast altogether! I find it hard to breath while on my stomach and I told them that. I even asked for oxygen, but they said they didn't have any (seriously? You don't have oxygen IN A HOSPITAL??) So, I just lay there and tried not to hyperventilate too much. It was pretty terrible for the 30-40 min it took to finish it. If I ever have to have another, they're going to have to give me MAJOR drugs to get me in there.

Well, that's good. Sorry, I didn't know how they stick you in the machine for that. Just know I kind of cringe when I hear MRI and that's about it.

i get prescribed valium amd it helps me with mri amd claustrophobia. You dont care about the mri. Its mot like you are high or dizzy. In fact you will feel like its not workng before you enter the machine...then , it just doesnt bother you. Best stuff ever!!
