Lump - Mammo and Ultrasound in 2 days. Lots of anxiety.

Hi! I'm glad I found this board, as I'm basically driving myself crazy with worry at this point. So I have no history of breast cancer on either side of my family and in fact only one family member has ever had cancer (my great grandfather died of colon cancer.) So I was very surprised to find a lump in my right breast underneath the areola. I wasn't even checking. Just randomly felt it while I was laying down to go to sleep a few nights ago.

I'm 35 years old and never have had issues with my breasts before. No kids. But I'm engaged right now, so this was definitely an unwelcome surprise while wedding planning!

I saw the doctor today and she could immediately feel it as well. In fact, it feels so obvious to me now that I can't believe I haven't felt it before. I'm hoping that means it might be fairly new. It seems like it's a couple of centimeters in the areola region, but the doctor said it's hard to tell because I have very dense breast tissue on both breasts. It's pretty much painless; maybe just some very slight discomfort. I'm already scheduled for an ultra sound and mammogram (my first one) in two days. I just can't stop thinking about the worst at this point. The doctor today already seemed to think it's not a cyst, it's probably fibroadenoma or possibly cancer because the consistency doesn't exactly feel cyst like.

I'm wondering if when doing the radiology I should just go ahead and ask them if they will do a biopsy or needle aspiration there?

And if it is fibroadenoma (please please please), I wonder if it could be connected in any way to the depo shot that I started for the first time earlier this year.

cg, take a deep breath and keep yourself busy. Many women get to the point where they need a biopsy, but most biopsy comes back B9. Your chances that it is BC are very slim. No need to worry yourself sick now. It's not going to help.
