Axillary Web Syndrome (Cording) &/or Lymphedema

I had a mastectomy with SLNB 6 weeks ago and had a TE placed. Cording started 3 weeks ago. Stretches and exercises help, but only temporarily. Now my arm is swollen. The swelling seems to be intermittent.

Does axillary web syndrome cause swelling or is it most likely lymphedema? Any information, suggestions, or your personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have cording and some very minor swelling. My CLT (certified lymphedema therapist) tells me that cording can predispose you to lymphedema. Get a referral from your doctor and go to a specialist ASAP. If you already have swelling, they should get you in right quick.

In the meantime, look up lymphatic drainage self-massage. There are many videos on this, many specifically for breast cancer. (I like MassagebyHeather.)

    Good luck!

Have you tried ultrasound waves to relieve the cording? I read about but, don’t know much about it.

I reported it to the PS nurse a couple of weeks ago. She didn't seem interested. My mid forearm is 1/2 inch larger than the other one. I have another appointment tomorrow and plan to ask for a referral.

There isn't any signs of celluitis, but I also have a seroma that they are draining every week and have a TE in place. Is there any correlation between the seroma, cording, & lymphedema?
