Axillary lymph node on ultrasound
Hi everyone. I'm reposting this from the undiagnosed forum because I wasn't getting much response.
I had my 3rd screening ultrasound on May 22. I got a call back for compression mammo and an ultrasound, I had this done June 7th and a biopsy was recommended. I had a vacuum assisted US guided biopsy today. When the sonographer scanned me today to find the area gain she scanned my axillary lymph nodes as well. Is that normal?
My initial ultrasound on June 7 I was given a BiRads 4. All they said was it was lobulated, slightly ellipsoid and 8mm. They didn't look at my axillary lymph nodes then. I asked for more detail about the lesion but they couldn't or wouldn't provide it. I would appreciate any input on whether scanning the lymph nodes only at the biopsy is the norm. Thank you so much.
I guess I should add that I am 42 yo and have no family history of bc. Thanks.

Hi FunnyBunnie,
During my biopsy US my axillary lymph nodes were scanned as well as the suspicious breast area. I did see the US order, and it specifically stated that the axillary area should be scanned to see if the US corroborated the negative node appearance on the MRI. It helped me to see the biopsy orders to know what and why things were done.
I think this is pretty standard. I was questioning everything when moving through this process.
Keep us posted

Thank you Catsme. I am also questioning everything. Frankly, I am scared and don't really have anyone to talk to about this locally. I told my husband that I don't want anyone to know for now (until we have some answers, anyway).

This is the toughest part of all of this, the waiting and the unknowns. I was similar to you in that I didn't share a lot outside of my boyfriend and adult son until I knew my diagnosis and plan. I did journal through this period as another outlet. That and binge watching Netflix and reading novels got me through this time. I also limited my time on Google.
When is your follow-up for results of the biopsy?
-
It's not set yet. The radiologist said 2-3 business days for results but they will come from my PCP. My primary told me that they would tell me my results in person..who knows. When they call I am going to ask to see them the same day, just to get it over with. I work the next 3 days so hopefully my best 8nd will be too busy to think about all of this often.. here's hoping at least.
I have a 10yo son so he isn't involved in this discussion at all yet. He will be once we know something though.

Hi FunnyBunnie,
They scanned my lymph area during the US for the biopsy even though they said it looked ok during my mammo/US. I think its routine to be thorough.
I know how horrible the waiting is. I still need to tell my 2 adult daughters but am waiting for surgery type confirmation first.
Praying for B9 results for you. 🤗

Thank you Cindymb. I hope things go well for you. I've read through this group that there is endless waiting. Hopefully you will get your answers soon so you can get through this as a family.
