just found out yesterday I will not need chemo but will be going right into 10 years of tamoxifen! I am only 33 years old, anyone else start tamoxifen around my age, how well did you do for that long of a time? Hoping any side effects I experience won’t be too bad. And maybe as time passes things will change and maybe 10 years won’t be recommended or something else will be out I can take.

10 years does seem like a long time. I am on the 10 year plan for AIs (I started with Tamox) and maybe longer because of my status and dx.

I hope, like you, that they find out 10 years isn't the current "gold standard" for us, or that they find something else that doesn't cause so many unwanted side effects, to help us avoid recurrence.

    Hang in there!

My MO took me off Tamoxifen after 5 years. She said there was no reason to stay on it for another 10 years given my DX. All that would do in her opinion would Increase my chances of getting a blood clot, etc.

I had IDC, Stage 1b, Grade 1. I had a lumpectomy and 33 radiation treatments. I’ll be 7 years out in August God willing.

I didn’t have any unmanageable side effects with Tamoxifen so I was one of the lucky ones. I know other women who have suffered terribly from the drug.

I hope 10 years isn’t the new gold standard either. I have a friend at church who has been on it for over 10 years. Ugh.
