At the beginning of May, I noticed that my left breast and a bit of the underarm was larger than my right breast. I noticed it because when I put my arm down, it felt full. I had already scheduled an appointment to see my primary doctor for other reasons, so I mentioned it to her during my visit. She sent me in for a Chest X-Ray, and an Ultrasound of the left breast and underarm. I also had blood-works done.

(I should also note that during the second week of May, I asked to leave work early because I was in serious pain in that area under my arm.)

After having the tests done and while waiting for my results, I noticed a line through the nipple that has started to retract over the span of two weeks. The changes have only been to the nipple, not the areola. Also, my chest has been itchy, and small pink/red spots that look like bites appear now and then on the breast.

I had a follow-up appointment with my doctor and she said the Chest X-Ray came back unremarkable, the Ultrasound came back negative, and the blood-work was clean.

At this point I'm not sure what to do next, or if I should be happy that everything came back clean because it continues to be irritated.

She ordered a CT-Scan that she said I can follow through with if I need more peace of mind. I'm not sure if I should follow through with the CT-Scan, or seek another test like a biopsy or mammogram. Thank you for your responses in advance.

Also important to note, I don't feel any lumps. Is there always supposed to be lumps?

First due to your age its very unlikely that this is anything sinister. Second the skin issue is probably just dry skin. Third... I'm sorry your concerned enough to find yourself here. There are a lot of reasons why your underarm could have been painful from a swollen node (due to fighting off some infection or illness) to some type of muscle strain you were not even aware happened. The nipple could be from hormone changings or something as simple as chaffing from exercise or friction in some types of shorts. The good news is your DR was diligent and ordered the test needed to detect any problems. Being younger ultrasound is the preferred method for finding abnormalities in the breast. To answer your last question.. normally there would be a lump if your nipplke is contracting or "changing direction" however that being said it doesn't always mean you can feel it. Weight gain or loss can change the shape of the breast. I hope this helps to put your mind as ease. If you still have these symptoms in a month or so follow back up with your DR.

    Best Wishes
