I have invasive lobular carcinoma . On Feb. 23, 2018  I had a mastectomy and reconstruction done at the same time.  I have been on letrozole since December 4, 2017 when they did the biopsy.  I had to have a dexa scan for my bones and it was found that I have osteoporosis in my femur bone that goes into my hip.  I am being told by the oncologist that I need to take an IV of Zometa every six months to protect my bones and my surgeon agrees that Zometa would be the best.  I am very nervous about taking this but I feel I have no choice.  My hands hurt now and I am wondering how they will be after the Zometa.   I am also supposed to see a Endocrinologist in a month to see why my blood pressure is going sky high and I am having lots  of face flushing and anxiety.  One night I had to go to the ER because my blood pressure was 205/106 and I was a mess.  The doctor there said he thought I had an adrenal problem.  Another reason for the Endocrinologist.   Anyone else had Zometa or a problem with adrenal glands?

Hi Dakrock. I'm sorry I can't answer your question, but I have osteoporosis too and take Fosomax. And many women with breast cancer take Prolia since in addition to treating osteoporosis it can reduce the risk of cancer spread to the bone as an additional benefit. So perhaps you should see an endroconologist before you start Zometa...wishing you all the best.

Ask if you can take Tamoxifen instead. It does not have the same degenerative effect on our bones. I have mild osteopenia in my hips, and had a hysterectomy//oopherectomy. I am happy with the decision and the ability to take Tamoxifen.

Thank you .   I am scheduled to see an endocrinologist the end of July.   Hoping for some answers.

Thank you I plan to ask the oncologist if I can do that.   Thanks for the advice.
