Just diagnosed
hello. I am new here and just diagnosed yesterday , to say I was shocked is an understatement. You never think you will personally hear those words. All I know this far is it is IDC grade 2 and I have an appt to see the surgeon on Monday. Any advice?

Hi Dmarsh,
So sorry to hear your Dx. You will get more info on Monday and the options you have based on the total results. Take notes so you can think about everything after your appointment. You will get a lot of information you are not familiar with and may need to consult other people to understand it. Keep us posted, and stay strong.

That initial meeting will have a lot of good information, including tumor characteristics, which will determine your recommended treatment. Many women's first decision is whether to have a lumpectomy or mastectomy. That's often enough to think about in the short term. Take it one step at a time. You will be sad at times but also really strong. BCO (this website) is an amazing resource for information/support/hand-holding/. . .

If you can have someone with you for an extra set of ears, that helps. Take notes. Its a whirlwind and sometimes we just go through the motions and don't even remember what someone said to us 5min ago. Once you have more information and options, you will feel like you have a handle on it.

Yeah, I just got a diagnosis last week too. Mad at myself for not being more assertive when started getting weird itching a year ago. (Why don't doctors who do PAP smears ask about breasts any more?) And just "complied" when told in Sept "no, medicare won't let you have a mammogram til 2 years." I mean it was just a weird feeling, I told myself. Can't find lumps.
But when felt pain and a lump suddenly in March, I demanded the March 2018 mammogram - which raised questions. Even then I let them delay a sonogram for two months! I kept tell myself if was just another fibroid and doctor thought so too. Now they're telling me it's grade iii metastatic!!
I've had diagnosis problems with this hospital before and they were for sending me straight to the general surgeon for chopping, etc.
So moving to a surgeon in a much higher rated hospital with a whole breast cancer program. I can see from the size of lump on xray and fact it spread to a lymph node between sonogram and biopsy in just 10 days, means I might be in big trouble; more than just breast removal. But will think positive and see what new doctor says when visit her soon.
And I have lost ALL interest in sugary foods and dairy, so the fat should start rolling off. I've done totally healthy holistic diet ad a few key supplements for other problems in past and lost a lot of weight, so this will be one benefit. Fitting into some of my favorite clothes again!
