Herceptin, flagyl and hair loss

Hi everyone. I haven’t been here for a while since I’m trying to live as if this is behind me for the most part. Anyway, I am still on herceptin for ER/PR-, her2+ IDC. Things have been going well all in all, although the fear is still always there, which I know you understand. Recently I started taking the generic brand of flagyl for an infection and now I’m losing hair! I did cold capping during chemo so I wouldn’t lose my hair and now this? I only need to take it for a few more days, but it’s causing me to have a lot of anxiety.

Does anyone know anything about this? Will the hair loss stop once, the flagyl is out of my system, which I’m guessing will be in a few days after I’m finished taking it? I wish this wasn’t part of my reality. I worked so hard to keep my hair and now this. I know many of you lost all your hair during chemo and I don’t mean to make anyone feel bad, but I’m not coping well with this.

Thank you for any input you can offer

I guess I should add that I googled flagyl and hair loss and found data connecting it to BC and herceptin use, but couldn’t really understand i. Why don’t doctors know these things? The doctor that prescribed the generic flagyl never mentioned this as a possible SE. if he had, I would have looked into an alternative treatment.

This is interesting. I finished chemo on 2/14/17 (and continued with Herceptin till October 2017). In March 2017 I was hospitalized for an abdominal abscess and put on IV antibiotics. After my release, I was put on Cipro and flagyl.

I lost all my hair during chemo and it didn't start to grow back until April 2017. Everyone else's hair seemed to grow back soon after finishing chemo, but mine took 2 months to start growing. I wonder if the flagyl + Herceptin caused my hair growth delay?

I hope your hair loss stops soon. Thanks for sharing this info.
