Headaches During Chemo _

Options

Hi

I am terribly worried. Commenced second cycle of Chemo two weeks ago, and last five days have had a dull headache. It has go worse the last 24 hours and now become a sinus type headache. Is this a common side effect or sign of worse?.. Did not have this first round of chemo? Terrified with fear?

Thanks for reading and responding Kim

I developed a headache between the first and second round of chemo. I have a history of migraines, but it didn't feel like that. And none of my usual resources worked, either. My MO ended up giving me Ultram, but that didn't really seem to help. Eventually it went away.

I don't know if it was a contributing factor, but I was hospitalized with low WBC's and fever during that time as well. There are so many things that can cause headaches. Try not to worry but do let your MO know about it.

    Hope it's better soon!

I developed dull frontal headache as soon as cytoxan completed and continued till next am. I spoke to nurse who said it could be related to the rate of infusion of cytoxan. Also I’m reading 1-2 liters of fluid during chemo is necessary to reduce side effects. Also read antiemetic like Zofran & Emend can cause headaches. Planning on more fluids & slower infusion rate for 2nd chemo reg

Kim - I looked back and it seems you are posting in behalf of your wife? Please go to 'my profile' and list the diagnosis and treatment for her so far and make it public. It will be much easier for people to answer if they have that information. For example - how long is it after surgery? What chemo is she having? Where are you located? Are you at a major NCI cancer center?

You should talk to the doc. There is likely something they can ad to the IVs in the future, but they can no doubt prescribe something oral now. Or call the nurse navigator if you have one.

I agree about the infusion rate - although it may depend on the drug. Still, I never let them push anything through in less than an hour after my first 30 minute experience. I also had an extra bag of saline during the 3 weeks between each infusion.

Hello, I didn’t have a problem with headaches during chemo or radiation; but, now that I am continuing treatment with Herceptin for the next six months, I have had a long-lasting tension headache that I cannot seem to get rid of. I have seen articles that indicate Herceptin can cause headaches, but my MO has not mentioned it. In fact, she has scheduled me for an MRI of the brain because my headaches just won’t go away.

Has anyone else had problems with this? Thanks!
