Waiting on Lumpectomy results, ten days tomorrow

Hello,

I had a Lumpectomy to have a radial scar removed ten days ago tomorrow.  I was told the results would be in within a week and waiting the extra weekend, has been overwhelming.

I was told there is only a 5 to 10% that cancer will be found, but this wait has been going on since March.  My birads score after the MRI and Songram was 4C so it was good news that is was a radial scar. However, I know I need resolution now on the lumptectomy results. Last week on I was afraid to answer the phone to get results and then cried at my son's class party when I found out the surgeon was not in the office and I'd need to wait until Monday to hear.  There is not a lot of information about the types of cancer found in radial scars.

To add some light to this otherwise Worry Girl post, I have to shared what happened last week.  My Mom who has been amazing, was a little overwhelmed with all the medical terms going on.  A friend asked her to go to lunch  last Friday.  My Mom said, "I can't on Friday, because my daughter is having a  LOBOTOMY.  Her friend corrected her and said, she can't be having a lobotomy, do you mean Lumpectomy?"

Anyway, she made her friend laugh, me laugh and the surgeon, (who she told).  Keeping busy, praying and laughing has helped over the last three months of tests and waiting.

Wishing the same for everyone else.

Hiya Peace, the lobotomy story was hilarious! You’re lucky, my mum would have said “no really, she needs a lobotomy” im sorry you had to wait over the weekend, the waiting is the worst! Have you got your results yet

Thank you so much egads007 and everyone on this board,  I got my results back and they showed no cancer. I was very relieved.  They did find "atypical ductal hyperplasia, an intraductal papilloma with focal stromal scleroisis."   My surgeon referred me to an oncologist as I am considered high risk.  The nurse said I may be prescribed tamoxifen.

I appreciated your response... and sharing a needed laugh with me about the "lobotomy" my Mom said I was going for.   :)

PeaceK--just a heads up that I had ALH about nine years ago so had a lumpectomy (I read at the time there was about a 20% probability they'd find something nastier in the area, although I was all clear), but no further treatment. I honestly had forgotten about it and was about 18 months late for my mammo in 2016 when the DCIS was discovered. You'll be fine from this but please continue to do your annual mammos. (FWIW--I don't think it would have changed my dx but I do think it would have been a much smaller area. That chunk in 2016 was HUGE!)
