I am getting my onco test results tomorrow afternoon. I'm nervous. Been waiting 3 weeks My oncologist said he wanted to do the test to see if I need chemo or not. He said depends on on how aggressive my cancer is. After reading the article it Looks promising that i may not need chemo. my nodes were clear and I got clean lines. I have my fingers crossed.

Hi all, I'm sitting here waiting on OncotypeDX results. But I have a theoretical question. Let's just say my result comes back at 0 or very low saying I don't need chemo (and that's what I am praying for). I still got cancer already. So is my chance of recurrence really 0? Or is it what an average risk is for someone with no genetic history with the added benefit that I'll now be receiving hormone therapy? And I know that anyone's risk is never really zero, I am just trying to get my head around what the result really tells you before I get it and go to my next appt. TIA.

Tigerlily - this might be helfpul in terms of stats regarding the TailorX study & Oncotype:

"The researchers found that the primary endpoint of the trial, invasive disease-free survival — the proportion of women who had not died or developed a recurrence or a second primary cancer — was very similar in both groups. Five years after treatment, the rate of invasive disease-free survival was 92.8 percent for those who had hormone therapy alone and 93.1 percent for those who also had chemotherapy. At nine years, the rate was 83.3 percent for those with hormone therapy alone and 84.3 percent for the group that had both therapies. None of these differences were considered statistically significant.

The rates of overall survival were also very similar in the two groups. At five years, the overall survival rate was 98.0 percent for those who received hormone therapy alone and 98.1 percent for those who received both therapies, and at nine years the respective overall survival rates were 93.9 percent and 93.8 percent." https://www.nih.gov/news-events/news-releases/tail...

You can also run your stats through a calculator like the Predict http://www.predict.nhs.uk/predict_v2.1/tool

    or LifeMath http://www.lifemath.net/cancer/breastcancer/therap...

My MO explained that if my Oncotype score came back low it meant that the benefits of chemo are not outweighed by the risks of chemo, and that the recurrence rate is unlikely to be affected by chemo.

I found out today, 20. Since I am under 50, chemo it is. I meet with the oncologist on Wednesday but my surgeon says I should do it. I don't want to have something happen in 5, 10, 15 years and regret not doing it. I hope I can reduce the chances even more with diet and exercise.

I'm curious as well. My ki67 is 13.35. I know they want it to be 10 or below. I haven't had the oncotype yet

Tigerlily, it doesn't mean you won't get a recurrence doing chemo but perhaps the odds decrease a little. Good luck to you.

I'm not quite sure how to post on this site yet or if I'm even at right place. My k1-67 was over 40% and my oncotype RS is 25. My second opinion MO states chemotherapy not necessary, maybe not even radiation (don't agree with that opinion) and my other MO thinks maybe chemotherapy and I'll meet with him again on Tuesday. Was mapped for radiation yesterday to start on 10/8 and may be have to be put off due to chemotherapy debate. Does anyone have similar situation and/or results because of the oncotype score?? I just want to move on... Was waiting for weeks for oncotype results and now that I have them, there is still some debate. Will definitely be going on hormonal therapy after radiation and/or chemo. Thanks

msvp, I had an onco score of 21 (prior to TAILORX study results); did chemo and rads. I would suggest asking for a mamma-print test if you are still on the fence. Best Wishes!

@msvp, my oncotype was 20 and I am doing chemo. A lot of it also depends on your age and the tumor grade. I am premenopausal

Hi msvp: Strictly interpreting the TAILORx study, if younger than 50 y.o. you'd benefit from chemo. If older than 50, then chemo may not be necessary. That said, your RS 25 is the cut-off for the intermediate to high score. You also have a high Ki-67 which means fast proliferating tumor cells that would likely be more responsive to chemo if any escaped the tumor. I'd say go with 3rd opinion, mammoprint interpretation, or just go with your gut!

Thanks for all of your responses. I'll be 62 in December, so it would seem to put me in the no chemo range with the 25 score. Fortunately for me, up until now, all my doctors agreed on path forward, so, I just don't want to put treatment off anymore for another opinion or another test. That is what makes me the most nervous. Since the TAILORx results are new since only June, I guess that is why I may have a divergence in opinions. I feel like I'm seeing the best of the best in Chicago from 2 very reknowned hospitals so I'm just looking for real world answers and opinions from all of you.

I agree with lmurphy. Maybe let Mammaprint make the call. 25 is too close for comfort IMO. My score was 11 which is on the low side. I didn’t have chemo but I did have 33 radiation treatments. I am sure you are spent from doctors visits, tests, second opinions, etc but we are talking about keeping the beast at bay.

No one wants to do chemo but if its the best treatment to help prevent a recurrence then that’s what I would have done.

    Good luck!

I'm 46, and my Oncotype Dx was 21. I didn't do chemo as I felt the risk was not worth the potential benefit. My MO didn't push either way. I'm starting 3 weeks of radiation this week, then tamoxifen. Also, healthy lifestyle to reduce recurrence risk even more
