TNBC pleural cytology

Hello and thanks for having this message board, Feb 2015 my wife had 3.5cm breast tumor. Cytology tnbc, ki67 at 90, lvi, nodes positive, stage 2b.. Neoadj. chemo through Sept., then partial mastectomy, had pcr, then radiation into january 2016. During chemo, once hospitalized for pneumonia. April 2017 small pleural effusion and thoracentesis to remove it. Pleural effusion recurred 30 days later, she basically collapsed with pneumonia, viral meningitis, sepsis. I had to call ambulance. Another thoracentesis and Pleural fluid cytology reported "scant tumor cells consistent with primary breast" and Final: Malignant pleural effusion with pericardial effusion. Family doctor, while still in hospital told us they had found cancer cells and told us she's in Gods hands. Oncologist noted on hospital release that he was not convinced this was recurrence at this time. Sept 2017, she was in JC Penney, and it happened again, sepsis pneumonia-questionable effusion. She was put on antibiotics and nimv in ICU 7 days considered in critical condition. A lot of work done controlling heart, blood pressure, breathing. Nothing about malignant effusion, the pulmonologist was the key doctor and did great. Oncologist repeats not convinced cancer recurring. Thankfully she is doing very good right now. My hope for this story is to understand what this all means. We very much like and trust her doctors, and know cancer can do anything. Do doctors try to avoid giving prognosis, its usually, wait and see. Can cytology reports be so wrong? It is same lab that originally said she had tnbc? Family doctor for 18 years, and other doctors work as a great team. I'm on 911 alert constantly, and still working. We are more in love today than the day we married 20 years ago. Test results now say "no acute findings", before, reports showed all findings, and its hard to ask doctors in front of her as I try to protect her from any negativity. Thanks

I'm so sorry to hear about your wife. I'm currently helping my sister who has TNBC, recovering from surgery where she had 55 nodes removed. I wish you both the best.
