hello ladies!

I received a call earlier from my doctor's office that they are going to begin Lupron injections at my next visit. She mentioned that it had something to do with infection fighting and hormonal regulation.

I'm trying to educate myself online (of course!) about the drug and figured I would reach out to you ladies on what you know/what your experiences were on this.

Thank you!

    Hi!

I'm on Zoladex, Lupron's cousin. My MO prescribed it for me so I could take an aromatase inhibitor (Aromasin) even though I was pre-menopausal. For us HER2+ gals, aromatase inhibitors are considered to be somewhat more effective than Tamoxifen.

Lupron will put you into chemical menopause and all that entails, such as hot flashes and the like.

Hi I was on Lupron for a year and tried two AIs. It was difficult on me so I switched to Tamoxifen. I had my first shot on the first day of my period in Nov 2016. That was it for that until just this week, six months after my last shot. So I think my period came back. Boo! But I do feel better with some estrogen in my system.

Good luck to you as you navigate through treatment.

    Hi

I had lupron for 3 years in order to take an AI since I was pre-menopausal and could not take tamoxifen--I got a monthly lupron shot (I think you can also do one every 3 months). For me the main side effects were vaginal dryness and a sort of "brain fuzziness" although that could have been from chemo as well..... I stopped when we thought I might have finally reached menopause (we were just guessing, but we were right)..... good luck

keeks- I am currently doing monthly Lupron injections and Tamoxifen. Once a month shot in your backside, there is a three month depot shot too. I would request a bone density scan before you start. Lupron is known to be hard on your bones.

I’m really confused though, because you’re hormone negative, right? What’s the benefit of shutting down your ovaries?

Yes, I agree. Why decrease the estrogen if not estrogen responsive? I'm not familiar with any other use for Lupron.

Yes, I am now getting confused too as I am only HER+...I'll have to call and ask. So many drugs, so much information...so completely overwhelming!

Did you tell them you were interested in fertility preservation or anything like that? They use lupron to shut down the ovaries during chemo sometimes to protect them.

No, we definitely stated that we're all done having children (decision made prior to me even knowing I had cancer.)S
Strange. Definitely a question for my oncologist!
