IDC dx post prophylactic umx

Newly diagnosed & feeling a bit confused on what my likely path forward for treatment may be. I had a prophylactic unilateral mastectomy with immediate reconstruction last week due to MO recommendation that I was very high risk based on too many factors that I broke the statistical models. (Family history, LCIS, ADH, ALH, plus had DCIS & umx 4yrs ago)

Turns out she was right that I was high risk as my pathology came back with IDC (2mm stage 1a, ER/PR+, HER2 equiv, type 1 - waiting on FISH & oncotype). Super happy to have found it early & was a less aggressive type. Seems most are diagnosed then have a mx but I've managed to do things the other wa the other way around. So am confused now on if I will now require further treatment by the MO since I don’t have any breast tissue left to treat. I don’t see her for a few weeks so hoping to gain some insights on my likely treatment paths ahead so I focus my research efforts & minimize my worry.

Izzy - We are some of the luckiest unlucky people in the world. Same thing happened to me, but mine was much larger. I am a tad surprised they can even do the oncotype test. For some reason I was thinking I read they needed at least 3 mm of tumor - but what do I know.

My oncotype came back quite low, but hormonal therapy was still required. I’m very glad you had the surgery, but I understand that it is still a kick in the teeth.
