Hello,

I was on here two years ago for some issues with the left breast with bleeding discharge and they went in and fix it. I feared of breast cancer then but this time I am even more worried.I went on Tuesday to do a followup mammogram because I was due for the yearly checkup. During the mammogram appointment, she said she was going to go ask if the doctor needed anything else before I leave. He said he needed an ultrasound done. I went over and had an ultrasound done. In the middle of it, the lady asked me If I am having any discharge? I said no not right now but I did two years ago and they were aware of everything then. She continued on for about another 5 minutes, and she said she was gotta go ask the doctor if this was all he wanted done and if the ultrasounds were ok before I leave. About 5 minutes came by, she came back, but with the doctor. I never had a doctor come in during any mammograms or ultrasounds. The doctor said he needed to take a look at the ultrasound with the tech. They only looked at one area ( left of my left nipple ) and he asked me how can he get in touch with me later ( because I am hearing impaired ) and I stated to give my mom a call. Yesterday morning I received a phone call from my doctor at 615am stating that my results came back, it's in the BIRADS Cat 4, needing a biopsy done, and I seen my results. I am not quite understanding this at all. I am assuming it can be nothing but why a biopsy? They even asked me if anyone in the family has B/C? which my dad's side of the family- grandma, great aunt and my cousin. My results as follows-

2 echogenic nodules, probably within left periareolar ducts.
Ultrasound guided biopsy of at least one of the 2 nodules is
recommended. If positive results, then MRI may be warranted.
Ultrasound-guided biopsy is recommended.
ASSESSMENT: BI-RADS Category 4: Suspicious Abnormality -
Biopsy should be considered.

Also stated-

in the 2:00
periareolar region there are 2 echogenic nodules measuring 10 x 6
x 8 mm and 9 x 4 x 5 mm that appear to be located and a distended
fluid-filled duct. There is no significant color Doppler is
found.

My doctor called me again 330pm yesterday and I have an appointment Tuesday for the Biopsy.

Thank you!

BIRADs4 is issued any time there is a 3% or greater risk of malignancy. Roughly 80% of BIRADs4 will be benign. So, you can see that the odds are in your favor. Breast cancer is generally a disease of older, post-menopausal women, so your family history may or may not be of too much concern. Still, it *can* occur in younger women, which is why they are taking this seriously.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

thank you for your response. Im 35, one of my cousins who had it and had both boobs removed wad young in her late 30s. I also have a cousin(not blood, by marriage) going through it now. Shes 37. I didn't think B/C happened in younger age at all. I'm not understanding the term'echogenic'. Do you?

echogenic just means it bounces back sound. Ultrasound uses sound waves and solid things bounce them back. That's how the ultrasound can 'see' masses.

You can read more about it here: https://breast-cancer.ca/ultrahypo-echosolid/

but honestly, I'd try to stay off google and reading. Don't borrow trouble ahead of time, kwim?

try to relax & enjoy your weekend.

The biopsy will tell you what you need to know & the biopsy itself is not bad. They will freeze the area - small pinch like if you've ever had freezing for dental work. My place gave me an ice pack to tuck into my bra afterwards. I went grocery shopping on the way home & just used ice packs 20 min off / 20 min on that evening (to limit bruising - bruising is normal though, even if you do use ice). It didn't hurt really at all.

    best wishes
