Newly diagnosed
I had a suspicious mammogram and ultrasound last Wednesday which resulted in a biopsy on Thursday. Yesterday i received the biopsy results: IDC, grade 2 with 2.4 cm tumor in my right breast and cancer in biopsied lymph node. No family history of BC so this is indeed a surprise to me. My MO appointment is next Thursday. While i read through the forum threads, I'm interested in learning what i should expect during that first appointment. Anyone with similar diagnosis, I'd love to hear about your experience and what i might expect going forward. I’m in education mode right now!

So sorry you join us here. Did you find out if you are estrogen and or progesterone positive? Most of us have surgery and follow up treatment to prevent recurrence. This tends to be the most stressful time getting diagnosed.

ladybug I am sorry you find yourself here. But glad you found the support!
I was diagnosed with IDC multi focal (more than one tumor) had my masectomy Friday and am waiting results on lymph nodes. I am surprised found out do quickly about the nodes.
Standard course of action seems to be biopsy, diagnosis, surgery, staging, treatment plan of chemo/radiation/meds.

hi LayDeeBug,
Seems we all have different starts to this perilous journey. I was recently diagnosed de novo stage IV. I was referred to a surgeon who told me she would insert a port ready for chemo, with the objective of reducing the cancer small enough to operate.
I saw my oncologist the next day. She cancelled the port, and said no, I want you to trial a new drug. This seemed a preferred option to me, so here I am 3 months along, my cancer has halved in size and I have minimal side effects. I don't know how long this drug will be effective, but reports seem to indicate good outcomes.
There are many effective treatment plans that keep getting better as newer drugs come on the market. Hope all goes well for you.
Hugs,
Jackie

LDB--your recommended course of treatment will depend on tumor characteristics (as Meow said), and may involve surgery, chemo, and/or radiation. Many women have to decide on mastectomy vs. lumpectomy--there are many threads on that. Gathering information is important, as is making decisions you will be comfortable with. Know that BCO (this site--so many abbreviations!!) is an AMAZING resource, and everyone here has your back.
