Stage III Mastectomy or Lumpectomy?

Hello! I am currently undergoing chemo and wondering if I made the correct choice about surgery. I have Stage IIIc grade 2 and chose a partial mastectomy. I am now wondering about recurrence since it is aggressive. Anyone here worried they made the wrong choice? My sister has just been diagnosed as well and has decided on a mastectomy. Any stage III ladies that had to have mastectomies after all

Hi Albion, I had lumpectomy after neoadjuvent chemo. I know one other stage III member had lumpectomy after chemo treatment. I am at peace with my choice. My surgeon kept telling me that breast cancer , in particular, is very sneaky and very difficult to tell the prognosis. But if you go to stage III forum on this site, you will find a lot of long term stage IIIc survivors. Best wishes.

Hello! Thanks for the reply:) I suppose I have been overthinking the choices I made a lot lately. I am sure it will be fine and I made the correct choice for me. Hope all is well with you:

Don’t second guess yourself. It will make you crazy. I went with a lumpectomy followed by radiation at the recommendation of my BS and MO. My BC is Stage 1b, Grade 1, IDC.

My sister has ILC. She never said what stage or grade her’s is but she lives in another state and is very close to the vest.I’m the polar opposite. She had a partial MX.

We all make the best choices for ourselves with whatever information we have at the time. There are no guarantees whichever way we go.

I think we all worry a bit about a recurrence. I know I do. I am 6 1/2 years out.

    Good luck!

Hi Albion, I just remembered that there are two more stage III members , in starting-chemo-May-2017 thread, who also had lumpectomy. Take it easy.
