Can someone take a break from Femara and then go back on it?

Options

Has anyone ever been able to take breaks from their hormone therapy? Like where it was two weeks off, then six weeks on or something like that? The reason why I ask is because my mother started her Letrozole (femara) back in March, did pretty good for about six weeks and then started having horrible joint pain.

BUT she deals with sciatic nerve pain and also fibromyalgia and she also doesn't eat much. She has the appetite of a bird and I have to constantly remind her to eat. She's always been like this though, eats one meal a day and nibbles the rest of the day. She's pretty active and the more active she was when she was dealing with the pain, the better she felt but it wasn't much. So I guess that's the second part of my question, would eating more foods rich with vitamins help as well?

We have an appointment on Thursday for her six month follow up post radiation (it will be one year post chemo in July) so everything will be discussed with her doctor then. When she was having the joint pain, she called her doctor and her doctor told her to quit taking the drug until she could see her this Thursday.

If anyone can make sense of my horrible rambling, any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!

Yes, you can take a break and go back on. Another thing she could do (and, if asked, what I would recommend) is that she try a different AI. She might find that she does better on one of the other choices.
