Very confused about tests ordered

I have dense breasts. I have a wonderful ob/gyn that insisted I get tons of imaging done.

Last ultrasound, they found a 1 cm x 1.8 cm x 1.7 cm lobulated mass on my left breast. My birads is 4c.

They want a US guided core biopsy done. I made that appointment for 8 days from now in the morning. Just a few hours ago I was looking at my upcoming appointments online. On that same day, just hours later they scheduled a mammogram, on the same breast.

I have no idea why this is scheduled this way, but won't my breast be too painful for a mammogram just hours after a biopsy? And why would I have mammo scheduled the same day as a biopsy?

I'm so confused :(

it can all be very confusing. They will place a tiny titanium marker at each spot they biopsy. They do a mammogram afterward to verify the markets are where they should be. Where you have the biopsy will be numb so you should be good to go as far as pain. If they give you tiny ice packs afterward, make sure to ask for an extra set so you can have 1 in the freezer and 1 in your bra to help with any swelling/discomfort afterward. Mine were small enough that you couldn't see them through my clothes. Good luck next week!

Nope you will be fine! They call it a light touch (or quick touch maybe) mammogram and the purpose is to check the placement of the teeny biopsy marker they place in there. Your breast will still be numb, you won't feel it. Even if it's scheduled a few hours later I doubt they will wait that long--they will get you in there right afterwards I bet. They need to do that before they close the tiny incision, so it should be right away.

I had two of these done...the after mammogram was not a big deal other than I was shaky and they had to help me walk over there.

aria47...so sorry you are going through this. My advice would be to insist on a MRI before any treatment decisions are made. Its the best screening tool for dense breasts. Good luck and keep us posted.
