Hi.

sorry if I write in the wrong forum but my concern is specific in the possibility of having IBC.

Five years ago, a nodule was detected in the left breast around the nipple, which when biopsied turned out to be an abscess. This abscess has appeared and disappeared throughout these years. the mastologist told me what could happen.

A month and a half ago I felt the lump in another area of my aerola with the difference that this time the breast reddened, inflamed and the pain was extreme. I had an ultrasound that showed a possible formation of abscess and an inflammatory process. the mastologist refused to biopsy me and prescribed antibiotics.

Three weeks later, when I did not see absolute improvement, I went to another mastologist who performed the biopsy that revealed a proliferation of epithelial cells without atypia associated with a chronic inflammatory process to a foreign body.

the mastologist confirms me with the biopsy that it is an infection and an abscess.

a month later the symptoms have almost completely disappeared, I have no pain, the redness is gone, but the abscess is still there and the aerola is still obscured.

I'm still worried and I do not know if it's my anxiety or I should keep looking for answers.

Sorry for my writing , but I am Hispanic and my English is not very fluent.

Hi, Janet. We are not doctors and can't give you a diagnosis here. However, it sounds like you've seen at least two doctors who have said it's an infection.

Sometimes it takes a while for antibiotics to clear up an infection. Sometimes it takes more than one round of antibiotics, and occasionally an abscess will not clear up with antibiotics and needs to be drained by a doctor.

Nothing you described sounds anything like IBC. But if you continue to have concerns and believe the abscess is still there, please see your doctor again. Blessings and gentle hugs--SB
