Too high of a dose???

Hello!

My mother (age 61) has been on the generic form of femara to treat her stage 1 cancer for about seven weeks now, I am not sure what the milligrams of the dose is. For the first two weeks, she was incredibly achy but then she felt a lot better and all she dealt with were hot flashes. For the past week, she has been in AGONY. The pain in her hips and legs has kept her from leaving the house. She had to pull out her old cane that she was using when she was in PT for an injury two years ago and was using that to get around the house. I'd be across the house and hear her suddenly shout 'OW OH MY GOD!' Scared the heck out of me. She gave it a few days to see if she would adjust and the pain would fade and today she did feel marginally better but did get a hold of her doctor who immediately pulled her off of the femara and told her that her dosage had actually been too high. They want her to stay off of the drug for about a month to heal and then they are going to put her back on it at a lower dose.

Has this happened to anyone else? Is this a one in a million shot or is this a common problem for people? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
